DOOMed glass
Medieval Stained glass was seen as a golden age for the medium. It’s predominant use was to communicate biblical stories and themes to the general public, which by the most part were illiterate. As well as stained glass, murals known as Doom Paintings began to feature in Medieval churches. These depict judgement day / weighing of the souls sending a person to heaven or hell. The works below pay homage to Medieval stained glass and take their visual inspiration from Doom Paintings.
These series of works are a mix of traditional stained glass and machine fabricated materials.
The first two paintings: Stained Red (2018) and Stained Blue (2018)
are a mix of acid etched flash stained glass, uv ink and transparent vinyl set into a frame.
Dimensions: 445 x 620mm
The last two pieces: Gothic 1 (2018) and Gothic 2 (2018)
are a mix of antique stained glass leaded panels combined with uv ink and float glass set into a back-lit frame.
Dimensions: 700 x 1600mm
The series was exhibited at my solo show Things Fall Apart (2018) but now reside in The Devlin Hotel’s permanent collection.
